St Vincent de Paul Society

The Leschenault Conference is based in Australind.   We cover the locations of Eaton, Australind and Binningup.  We have 9 full time members and about 10 auxillary members who meet fortnightly for prayer and discussions in the meeting room at the back of the Church.

The Vincentian Core Values include – Respect, Compassionate Service, Simplicity, Advocacy for People in Need and Catholic Social Teaching.

There are two sides to the work of the Society –
To endeavour to strengthen our members' faith by undertaking works of charity whenever, wherever and in whatever form might be desirable;
to offer those, who may be in need of help, a hand up and not just a hand out.
The Society relies on three fundamentals  -
People to help;
Members (there is always work for new members!);
Funding

People helped include men and women with mental illness, unemployed, sometimes homeless, suffer from substance abuse and lack health care; indigenous and non-indigenous grandparents who are full time carers for their grandchildren and have only their pension as their source of income; families struggling to meet loan repayments, some needing basic life skills eg budgeting, cooking; single parents with children; new migrants and people from interstate.

Services provided include emergency accommodation for the homeless, separated families; health care in the form of medication, transport costs such as for people travelling to Perth for specialist treatment; provision of white goods such as refrigerators, washing machines and bathroom aids; food hampers, food vouchers, clothing, blankets, payment of utility services such as Synergy, Water Corporation, Alinta,Telstra.

The Society’s work relies heavily on donations and fund raising is continuous with two monster garage sales a year and Food Collections at both Australind and Eaton shopping centres each year.

New members are always welcome.  Training is provided.
